Delano saves the spirit of Puerto Rico's past, once thought to be lost with faded memories. This is a book to keep for oneself, it strenghtens one's soul.

Bayamón country road in 1941

t is spellbinding to know that there are still places like this in Puerto rico. YES! I've seen them... deep in the mountains... you can live these experiences of the jibaros of yesteryear. The humility of the Puerto Rican jibaro does not force him to keep up with modern trends and customs. If it works adequately, it is good for them. That's what's admirable! Si, Señor!

When Chuito "El De Bayamón" was alive, he used to sing about stamps like this one... a little "casita", a goat and some "muchachitos" floating aroun the "batey" surrounded by fruit trees and blue skies!

Plaza de Armas in SanJuan 1901

Looking eastward towards Santurce, you can see the main Town Square and The City Hall on the left. Yes, we also had electric trolley cars. A policeman arrested woman for smoking in public... First hamburger served in San Juan... President McKinley was shot by Leon Czolgosz in Buffalo, NY

Puerto Ricans were not having a good time that year... Many left for Hawaii to work in the sugar harvest. There, one Harry Von Holt refused them fair living conditions, resulting in Boricuas striking back with "No nos jode nadie..." The rest is history.
